We all played 3 or 4 games in our groups and the top team of each group went into the final. One of our boys teams ended up in the final against Educate Together with Tom, Daniel Shaw, Jonathan and Bobbie representing Room 12. Well done to the boys in the final who won 3-2 and to everyone who took part on the day! Room 12 was well represented with some amazing goals, super saves and hat-trick heroes! Thanks to Mr. Whitney who managed some of the boys from Room 12.

Remembrance Tree

November is the month of remembrance. It is a time where we can remember those who we have lost and who have passed away in our lives. We each wrote the name of someone we wanted to remember on a small tag and hung it from our remembrance tree to keep them in our minds and hearts as we pray.

Oliver!

by Enda Keating

  Year: 1854   Place: London, England

There was a mother who was about to have a baby but after she gave birth to a boy and named him Oliver, she had one look at him and died. A woman came and took the baby to the orphanage she worked at. But she didn’t just take the baby, she also took a locket that was around the mother’s neck.

Thirteen Years Later…

It is time for the boys and girls to get their daily meal at the orphanage called gruel. It is absolutely disgusting! The worst thing ever! Mr Bumble and the Widow Corny are in charge of the orphanage. They are very, very nasty! During their meal, Oliver went up to Mr Bumble and asked him for some more gruel because Oliver was very hungry. When Mr Bumble heard this he leapt out of his chair and tried to catch him. The Widow Corny and some more workers started to help Mr Bumble catch Oliver. They eventually caught Oliver and because he asked for more, they sold him. The owner of the funeral home bought him for five pounds. The next day at the funeral home, Oliver ran away from them because he was offended. Oliver was running hard until he came to Padington Green. He met the Artful Dodger. The Artful Dodger brought Oliver back to Fagin and his gang. Fagin is a gangster that brought lots of boys and girls into his gang to join him in pick-pocketing. Oliver settled in nicely with Fagin and his gang. The next day, Nancy and Bet came to visit the gang. They brought milk and bread with them because they knew how hungry the boys and girls were. The boys and girls were all very hungry indeed. After Nancy and Bet left, the gang went straight to work, pick-pocketing!

The Artful Dodger and some of the gang brought Oliver with them but when the Artful Dodger stole a wallet from a rich man called Mr Brownlow, Mr Brownlow thought it was Oliver who stole the wallet! Oliver went to court and was released. The Artful Dodger and the gang who was with him waited outside the court. Mr Brownlow brought Oliver back to his house. The Artful Dodger and the gang rushed back to Fagin who was in the pub was angry with the Artful Dodger. Suddenly Bill Sykes showed up! Bill Sykes is very scary and is very good at pick-pocketing. In fact, Bill Sykes is even more powerful than Fagin! He heard about Oliver and he shouted, “Who’s going to help me get the boy back!” Just then, Fagin asked Nancy to do it. Nancy refused to do it so Bill Sykes punched her in the stomach. Nancy did it in the end but she regretted it. In Mr Brownlow’s house, things were getting interesting. It turns out that Mr Brownlow is actually Oliver’s grandfather! Mr Brownlow gave Oliver clean clothes, books and five pounds. Oliver went outside for some fresh air and that’s when Bill Sykes and Nancy kidnap Oliver. They brought him back to Fagin and the gang. They were all playing games. The gang were afraid of Bill Sykes. All except the Artful Dodger and Fagin. Mr Brownlow was worried about Oliver at this point. He didn’t call the police though. Back in the orphanage, Mr Bumble and the Widow Corny were married but they had a fight two weeks later and that very same day the woman that took Oliver away from the mother actually died. Mr Bumble and the Widow Corny soon found out that Oliver was from a rich family so they went to Mr Brownlow’s house to collect Oliver and bring him back to the orphanage. Mr Brownlow said to Mr Bumble, “He got lost and even if he was here, I wouldn’t give him back because he is my grandson!” Mr Bumble was shocked and he left. Nancy felt sorry for Mr Brownlow so she went to his house and told Mr Brownlow to meet her at the London Bridge tonight at midnight. Oliver would be with her. Mr Brownlow said, “Yes. Midnight is perfect.” Mr Brownlow did just that. It was midnight and he was at the London Bridge. Nancy brought Oliver with her but just before she saw Mr Brownlow there, Bill Sykes came out of nowhere and murdered Nancy! Everyone at the bridge saw Bill Sykes murder Nancy. The police came and shot Bill Sykes! As soon as Bill Sykes got shot, all of the gang ran out from their hiding place under the bridge. All except for Fagin and the Artful Dodger Fagin ran for his life out the other way and never got caught. As for the Artful Dodger, he got caught by the police and was brought to court and lost. He was sent to jail and he never picked a pocket again. As for Oliver, he was happy and thankful living with his grandfather and he lived happily ever after.
